Frank Lampard Wants Steven Gerrard Rivalry In MLS

This season will be remembered as it will mark the end of the careers of two English stalwarts, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard who will be leaving the Premier League once and for all.

The above two are not only considered legends at their respective clubs but are also seen as faithful servants for their country where they represented England at the World Cup.

Lampard and Gerrard have been a revelation for their teams in the league. Lampard was the driving force from the midfield and was a central figure especially in Mourinho’s 2004 Chelsea team who lifted the League trophy for the first time in 50 years.

While on the other hand, Steven Gerrard commanded the whole team from the same position and his leadership was witnessed especially in the historic Champions League comeback win against AC Milan to lift the trophy in Istanbul in 2005.

Both the players not only helped the team on the pitch by providing vital goals and assists but they were an inspiration off it also. They became a catalyst for young players to come fourth and play with their heart and not succumb to the greed for money and wealth which drives modern day footballers.

More from The Pride of London

They are a beacon of loyalty where Lampard faithfully served Chelsea for 12 years while Steven Gerrard’s loyalty to Liverpool can be said to be unflinching where he rejected offers from Chelsea and other clubs and pledged his allegiance to the Merseyside club.

During their time Chelsea and Liverpool became new arch rivals and at the center of it all were Lampard and Gerrard. They symbolized the spirit and ambition of each of the clubs and they have carried the teams almost single-handedly at times.

Lampard will be moving on to New York City while Gerrard will join LA Galaxy where they will play for the remainder of their playing days.

"“What a fantastic player he has been for Liverpool and England, and he’s a fantastic bloke. He’s a family man, I’ve always known him as a good lad and a great player.I think it’s great for us that we have both made the decision to go there. We’re at the back end of our careers – we know that – but we’re still very driven and we’ll want to do well.I’m pleased he is there. It’s great for the league, it’s great for us at this time in our lives to go and play there and I look forward to playing against him there.”–Frank Lampard on playing Gerrard in the MLSSource: Sky Sports"

Lampard states that he is happy that he can rekindle the rivalry he had with Gerrard in the Premier League, in the MLS also. There is immense respect between the two players and surely MLS will become a bit more interesting with the entry of these two great footballers.

Although they are saying goodbye to the Premier League I don’t think the Premier League will reply back with the same answer. But as football is all about memories, they surely stacked up quite a lot of them.
