No pressure for either team on championship Sunday, as Chelsea FC and Sunderland secured the Barclay’s Premier League title and avoided relegation respectively. John Obi Mikel, Juan Caudrado would both feature in the starting XI. Petr Cech would also start in goal, in what is likely his last appearance in a Chelsea shirt.
Chelsea fans would be happy to see that their men started the game with attacking intent, looking eager to open the scoring.
Sunderland had a chance early on through an attacking free kick. Sebastian Larsson has been known to strike a good ball in those areas, and indeed he forced a save from Cech,.
Referee Lee Mason would have some explaining to do, for the Chelsea fans at least, after Branislav Ivanovic went down inside the box in the 15th minute. Eden Hazard found the fullback with a beautiful pass on the counter, but Mason seemed to have judged Ivanovic went down too easily.
The breakthrough would come for Sunderland in the 26th minute. Steven Fletcher found himself unmarked on the far post on a corner, and nodded in his header calmly. It would be his first goal for 25 games.
The Blues would equalize in the 36th minute, through the first half substitute Diego Costa. Willian earned a penalty by forcing John O’Shea to make a clumsy challenge in the box. Costa stepped up, and took the spot kick well, giving him 20 league goals for the season.
1-1 would be the score going into halftime, with neither team looking like they were likely to pull in front. Whichever team scored the next goal, if it comes, would be favorites to go on and win the game.

Chelsea would start the second half similar to the first, being the more aggressive team, and getting opportunities to take the lead. Loic Remy and Gary Cahill both had chances to put Chelsea in front, but couldn’t take advantage.
The Blues would go in front after 70th minutes through Remy. The Frenchman took advantage of a pass from Hazard, and caught goalkeeper Vito Mannone wrong footed to bag the go ahead goal.
As the theme has been during these last few games, more players from the youth system have been seeing first team action. Today, Danish defender Andreas Christensen would make his Barclay’s Premier League debut. He’s rated highly by many, and fans will hope he can be one of the current prospects who carve out first team spots for themselves in the future.
Remy would cap things off in the 88th minute, securing a brace in the process. The forward made a near post run and flicked on the pass from Nemanja Matic past Mannone, and into the back of the net.
So the season would end in style, a 3-1 victory. Chelsea Football Club, the 2014-215 Barclay’s Premier League champions!
MOTM: Loic Remy – There were plenty of candidates for man of the match here, but Loic Remy separated himself from the pack with his two second half goals.
