Chelsea FC midfielder Eden Hazard has reaffirmed his intentions to stay with the Blues and has high ambitions here. The young Belgian has won a few trophies in his time at Stamford Bridge including the Europa League, Premier League, and the League Cup but has yet to taste Champions League glory.
Last season the Blues came to within a game of the final but fell short to a tough and physical Atletico Madrid side. This season they fell victim to a dramatic comeback from PSG who were able to galvanize their team after going a man down.
Hazard has been linked with a move to PSG in the past but he has stated that he has already moved on from the French league where he was so successful with Lille. Real Madrid has also supposedly come knocking for his signature but Jose Mourinho jokingly quoted them a price of 100 million per leg for the super star.
In an exclusive interview with the Standard, Hazard responded to that speculation and said, “Why change? If you’re happy and things are going really well at one place, there is no need to change. Obviously, these things don’t just depend on me but whenever you’re enjoying your football and having the chance to win trophies, it would be silly to change.”
He also acknowledged that he is “missing” the Champions League from his resume. He said, “The Champions League is the one thing missing from my career. When I look at the history of the competition and the people that have taken part, the top, top players have all won it. For many it is why they have been regarded as top players.

“So if I want to be considered in that upper, upper level of top players I need to win the Champions League at some point. Obviously it is not easy, it is a tough tournament to go all the way to win. But it is something as a club I think we can do and we have to always dream of. I have imagined that feeling of what it would be like to lift the trophy. Let’s hope we get a chance to do it.”
We all know that the Champions League can be a bit of a crapshoot at times as can any tournament style competition. The best teams usually win the league but the best team does not always win the Champions League or the FA Cup or any other tournament. The Champions League in particular is a test of how much your team can handle and how well a manager can balance the demands of the best competition in club football with the other competitions clubs take part in.
The true legends of football in Europe do make their names in the Champions League in this era as it has become more and more highlighted as the premier competition. Nothing will be taken away from the greatness of Eden Hazard if he never wins the Champions League but it would make for an excellent addition to any footballer’s CV.
