Our Favorite Chelsea FC Goal: The Pride Of London Staff

It’s nice to sit back and reflect on a great season, especially after winning the Premier League and League Cup double. Those trophies would of course not been possible without the many goals that Chelsea FC scored in both competitions. In the Premier League, the Blues banged in 73 goals and added another 11 in the League Cup.

We asked the wonderful staff here at The Pride of London which one out of the 100 or so that the Blues scored in all competitions was their favorite. Here is what they had to say:

Joshua: This is a tough one, I loved the PSG goal with the defenders doing the work, but i gotta go with Willian as time is counting down against Everton. Got me out of my chair yelling. Willian resuscitated a win for the Blue’s when it was seemingly out of reach. It encapsulated all that was enjoyable about Chelsea this year. Fun games that were always close, not always pretty, and yet the Blue’s always managed to get a result

Brendan: Since the Chelsea website gave André Schürrle’s goal against Burnley the Reggie Bush treatment, I assume we’re supposed to forget that it ever happened. My non-André Schürrle goal of the year comes from the player who assisted Schürrle on that goal.

In the 88th minute, Fàbregas drove home a shot to secure 3 valuable points. The best part was the inevitable, and expectation exceeding, Twitter meltdown by Arsenal fans as it practically slammed their title door shut.

Johann: That Willian goal was pure skill! The chance came out of nowhere, and he did not blink to slot it home. All skill aside, the goal was crucial to remaining dominant in the title race.

Willian might not score every game, but his goals make a difference. Slightly unrelated but , my least favorite goal was when Andre stole Oscar’s hat trick. Douche move.

Connor: My favorite goal of the season was Diego Costa’s vs Newcastle at home. While it didn’t really mean much, nor was the game of that high importance, but that goal embodied what Costa is all about; his tenacity.

Relentless pursuit of the ball and makes a tackle to win it back and then gets himself in position to score. The move also included some great little passes outside the box and Oscar provides a beautiful little flick to set up Costa.

Ajitesh: Cesc Fabregas away at Crystal Palace. Cesc’s first league goal for the club and it summed up all that Chelsea was about during the first half of the season. Just great football all round really.

Lee: My favourite goal of the season is not because of the quality of it but the reaction to it! Chelsea’s 3rd goal away at Everton  (30/08/14) told me that we were in for a heck of a ride this season. Eden Hazard charged in from the left hand side of the penalty area, attempted a cross into the penalty area and Coleman deflected the ball into the net past a floundering Howard.

What happened next was pure Costa! Coleman had been niggling away at Costa all game so Costa ran into the goal, picked up the ball and as he ran past a distraught Coleman gave him a verbal mouthful! I’m not sure what language he used but Coleman and Howard got the message and handbags at dawn ensued with Howard getting booked. Diego Costa was already a legend at Chelsea FC!

Mike:

That first goal of the season is great. Diego’s 2nd and final goal in the Everton away game were really good too. For me it has to be both of the Man City goals. The away one was one of the best counterattacking moves I’ve seen all season. Hazard was key in it playing passes and moving the buildup and the low cross to find Schurrle at the far post was extremely tidy. That goal gets overshadowed by that other thing that happened in that game.

And the goal vs City at home, another beauty. Good buildup and Brana hit a great weak foot ball to Eden who one times it across to Remy to finish it off with the tap in.

Andre: The first goal of the season has to be the best. Sublime pass from Fabregas and what a finish by schurrle. It somehow set the tone for the season. Oscar’s outer was also good. There are so many but it has to be the first one for me.
