Chelsea FC Transfer Rumors: Key Transfer Targets – Part 2
Robert Paul Green
The 34-year England international has had a long career in English football from his time in Norwich’s youth academy till date, turning out for Norwich City, West Ham United and Queen’s Park Rangers. He has also been capped 12 times for the English national team, even being included in Capello’s squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, although a silly error in the first game against USA ensured he would not take part in the tournament again.
He has made a total of 534 combined Premier League and First Division/Championship appearances in English football and was relegated again along with his QPR team-mates after the team finished in 19th place at the end of the 2014-2015 season.
But he remained largely with his reputation intact after making a league high 132 saves playing behind a shaky QPR back line. Although he did continue his reputation of making silly errors, most notably his failed goal kick that allowed Hazard set-up Fabregas for the only goal in Chelsea’s 1-0 EPL victory over QPR in April, a game that was largely dominated by latter.
He is reputed to be a master of penalty saves, a fact that can be buttressed by the number of saves he has made from penalties. And with Petr Cech expected to leave the Chelsea FC, Mourinho is looking for an adequate back-up option for Courtois, a position the 34-year old Green would probably be willing to fill being faced with the prospect of Championship football with QPR (who will also be facing a major fine due to lack of compliance with FFP). The fact that he is also home-grown could help sweeten the deal even further for Mourinho and Chelsea FC.
