Chelsea FC Transfer Rumors: Patrick Bamford to Everton FC on Loan?

In keeping with Chelsea tradition, it appears another attacker is off to Everton to add to their goal-scoring prowess. Patrick Bamford, most recently on loan at Middlesborough, may be getting Premier League experience at Everton in the upcoming campaign, according to the Daily Mail. The English international will be joining a side that struggled to score and also failed to impress as they sputtered to a disappointing 11th place finish in the table.

According to Who Scored, Bamford found the back of the net 19 times across all competitions for Middlesborough this past season, and the 21-year-old has certainly caught the eye of Premier League clubs. Personally, I wish to see Bamford back at Chelsea as soon as possible, but it doesn’t appear to be likely.

He will most certainly join another English side this upcoming campaign to get more playing time and build the confidence necessary to play as a striker in the Premier League. Romelu Lukaku was a recent Chelsea striker who went on loan to Everton, and all Chelsea supporters know how that turned out.

Chelsea seem to be taking the long-option on these youth players and not truly giving them a chance to shine for the parent club early in their careers. Eden Hazard was about the same age when he was playing regularly for the Blues, although a much different class and type of player, but the point is the same. These players can truly add value for the parent club early in their careers.

Everton would be a good place for Bamford to learn, and an even better one if Lukaku is moved elsewhere in the summer window as the rumblings from his camp seem to dictate. Lukaku had a promising season at Everton while on loan from Chelsea, only to disappoint in his first full season at Everton as a full-time squad member this past season.

Another player who didn’t seem to find his footing this past season was Christian Atsu, also on loan from Chelsea. Atsu only made 9 appearances for Everton and failed to score a goal, while notching an assist.

Bamford will be a key piece to England’s national team in the coming years, and will undoubtedly score goals at the Premier League level. His loan to Everton will be his proving ground, and if all goes well there then in 2016-17 Jose Mourinho will be able to count on his goals for Chelsea in the proper shade of blue.
