The football season may be over, but the transfer season is in full swing. Let’s take a look at what transfer rumours concerning Chelsea FC are flying around the press this morning.

  • Chelsea are holding talks over a possible move for Barcelona’s Alex Song, according to The Telegraph. The midfielder, currently on loan at West Ham United, is likely to be moved on permanently from the Camp Nou. ‘West Ham United are trying to convince Barcelona to let them sign Alex Song on a free transfer, although talks have also taken place over a potential switch to Chelsea.’ Barcelona are thought to value him at around £5 million.
  • Edin Dzeko’s agent has categorically ruled out a move to Chelsea this summer, writes The Daily Star. The most significant part of this rumour is that he was, as a result, apparently linked with a move to Stamford Bridge at some point. ‘Many things influenced his performances last season, like the two injuries he had, but he has no reason to be unhappy in the club he won four trophies with. So the chances of him leaving are – none!’ I guess that’s that then.
  • The Daily Express reports that the Blues are considering a bid for Everton’s John Stones. This rumour isn’t particularly new, but hasn’t been talked about for a while. Everton boss Roberto Martinez is believed to value the defender at around £15 million. ‘Everton would be loathe to part with a player they rate at around £15 million but manager Roberto Martinez could use the money to strengthen his own squad.’
  • The Sun on Sunday (no link, subscription required) claims that Chelsea are looking to make Moussa Dembele a part of their squad for the next season. Valued at around £12 million, he could be a much cheaper alternative to the likes of Paul Pogba and Alex Witsel, whom the club have previously been linked with.
  • Lastly, The Daily Mirror carries an article about Jose Mourinho’s interest in Real Madrid’s Pepe. Due to a breakdown in his contract negotiations, the Blues along with Manchester City are keeping an eye on proceedings to see if they could potentially acquire him at a knock-down price.

That’s the rumour round-up for the day. Bear in mind that these are indeed only rumours so take them with a pinch of salt. Furthermore, most of the sources are British tabloid papers which are notorious for making up random stories in order to give their journalists something to do.

Nevertheless in a period starved of any proper football action, what do fans have left to do but speculate? Which one of these rumours do you see as plausible? Which ones do you really want to come true? Sound off in the comments below!
