Chelsea FC Transfer Rumour Round-Up, June 22nd 2015
The football season may be over, but the transfer season is in full swing. Let’s take a look at what transfer rumours concerning Chelsea FC are flying around the press this morning.
- French paper Le 10 Sport (via The Express) are reporting that Sergio Ramos looks set to reject a move to Chelsea in lieu of one to Manchester United. The Real Madrid defender is heavily linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu after contract negotiations have supposedly broken down. With Chelsea in need of a deeper defence, this will be a shame if a deal was ever likely.
- The Petr Cech saga has taken a step closer to reaching its conclusion, according to Sky Sports. The Czech Republic international is thought to have tied down his aide of affairs, with just the transfer fee now left to be agreed upon. ‘Sky sources report Cech, 33, has agreed personal terms in principle on a switch to the Emirates Stadium’.
- Atlético Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld looks set to reject a move to Stamford Bridge, claims The Sunday Times (no link, subscription required). Having spent last season on loan at Southampton, he apparently is more inclined to return to St Mary’s. not least because of the chances of receiving more playing time. Tottenham, meanwhile, are also thought to be greatly in the hunt.
- The Express carries an article about the future of former Blue Ashley Cole, and whether it may perhaps lie back in the Premier League. Roma are looking to get rid of the 34 year old after a largely unremarkable season with them, and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in luring Cole to Tyneside. With one year left to run on his deal, this may turn out to be some sort of loan. ‘Reports suggest Newcastle are interested in ending his nightmare spell at Roma and are willing to take him on a season-long loan’.
- Lastly, in other loan news, Andreas Christensen appears set to move to Borussia Monchengladbach, writes The Daily Star. The Danish centre-back is on the fringes of the first team squad but looks unlikely to receive any significant playing time at Chelsea in the next campaign. The player reportedly wants to be loaned out and it’s likely that his wish will be fulfilled.

That’s the rumour round-up for the day. Bear in mind that these are indeed only rumours so take them with a pinch of salt. Furthermore, most of the sources are British tabloid papers which are notorious for making up random stories in order to give their journalists something to do.
Nevertheless in a period starved of any proper football action, what do fans have left to do but speculate? Which one of these rumours do you see as plausible? Which ones do you really want to come true? Sound off in the comments below!
