Chelsea FC winger Mohamed Salah has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and others this offseason. According to The Standard,  the Egyptian midfielder has yet to decide on his future and is being targeted by a number of clubs in the Premier League as well.

Salah spent the second half of the 2014-15 season on loan at Italian club Fiorentina where he was a smashing success. He started off his loan with a tremendous spell of four goals in the first six games for the Viola and was hailed one of the signings of the season. It seemed to be a foregone conclusion that Salah would end up becoming a full-time player at Fiorentina as a permanent by option was placed in his loan contract.

The reports that came out around the time of his deal suggested that the Italian club could extend Salah’s loan for one more season and at the end of said season could purchase the midfielder for  £13m from Chelsea. However it has come out in recent weeks that it is up to Mohamed Salah where he would like to play next season and it is not fully in the hands of the Serie A club.

He is of course already a member of Chelsea FC but he has yet to decide whether or not to return to Fiorentina and a number of other clubs, including Tottenham, have come sniffing around for the Egyptians signature.

There also reports suggesting that José Mourinho will take no less than £17.5m for the winger. This is a solid increase from the £11m that Chelsea paid for him just a year and a half ago. It is also a demonstration of how quickly a player’s perceived value can change in such a short time.

Before his loan to Fiorentina, Salah was an auxiliary figure at Chelsea and could barely get on the pitch. Even when he was on the pitch for the blues he underperformed and seemed tentative at best. The Blues would have struggled to recoup their initial investment if they had decided to sell him at that point but now they can make it back and then some.

His value is reflected in the fact that Fiorentina needed a two year rental option before even considering spending that much money on him. Now after five successful months on loan, Salah is once again one of the prized prospects in world football.

Chelsea must now decide whether to keep the Egyptian in the squad or to cash in now when his value is so high. It appears that his time at Chelsea is over however and unless something dramatic happens between now and August he will likely be playing in another team’s kit next season.
