Chelsea FC Transfer Rumour Round-Up, June 23rd 2015
The football season may be over, but the transfer season is in full swing. Let’s take a look at what transfer rumours concerning Chelsea FC are flying around the press this morning.
- The ever mysterious ‘Sky sources’ are back with Sky Sports reporting that the seemingly never-ending Petr Cech to Arsenal saga should finish this weekend. ‘A transfer fee for the Czech Republic international goalkeeper is expected to be agreed by the two Premier League clubs in the next 48 hours.’ While we wait on that news, check out Brendan McDonnell’s take on Cech’s departure here.
- French sports site FootMercato are claiming that Arsenal, in addition to signing Cech, are also looking to shift prospect Charley Musonda across London. I simply cannot determine how credible this rumour is, given that I don’t speak much French, and I’ve got this via a 3rd party in The Daily Star. Hmmm.
- Chelsea’s supposed bid for Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti has taken a step back, according to The Evening Standard. The club president is quoted as saying: ‘Samuel is one of the untransferable players. We are discussing an extension that will do much to evolve the team.’
- The same article also carries news that the Blues may also move for striker Alexandre Lacazette, another Lyon player.
- The Metro reports that Chelsea are in pole position to sign Belgian striker Christian Benteke. While he has apparently refused to sign a new contract at Aston Villa, the Blues ‘have been cleared to complete the transfer of Christian Benteke’. With the big man ending last season on an impressive run of form, and Mourinho in the market for both a second and third striker, this could be big news for the West London club.
- Speaking to British radio station TalkSPORT, John Terry has fanned the flames around a potential bid for Everton defender John Stones (via The Daily Star). ‘I have seen a lot of games and I am a big fan of his’ is just one of quotes showing Terry’s admiration for him, which is enough to warrant transfer buzz these days…

That’s the rumour round-up for the day. Bear in mind that these are indeed only rumours so take them with a pinch of salt. Furthermore, most of the sources are British tabloid papers which are notorious for making up random stories in order to give their journalists something to do.
Nevertheless in a period starved of any proper football action, what do fans have left to do but speculate? Which one of these rumours do you see as plausible? Which ones do you really want to come true? Sound off in the comments below!
