Many times great players are unable to do great things in sports. Some are for various reasons and others are because they were never paired with the right coach/manager to get the best out of him and his teammates.

It appears as if Steven Gerrard is one among that group. The legendary Liverpool captain seems to be regretting some of his career choices after some quotes surfaced in an interview recently, as quoted by ESPN FC.
“I love the manager, I love the man, (speaking of Jose Mourinho) I’ve had a distant relationship with him for many years but, I have regrets for not playing for the man and the coach because I know he would have made me a better player.” said Gerrard.

We all tend to do a little reflecting after a stage of our lives is through, and part of that reflection process is examining different crossroads in our lives that have changed the way and direction we went. Sometimes we even find ourselves believing we had made a mistake with a particular choice after seeing what the results were of both roads.
However, most of us are not star footballers in England and most of us would not make the news if we had mentioned to someone we think we could have ben better had we made a different choice at a particular crossroads.
“I know he would have had more trophies to what I’ve already won. But looking back now I have no regrets not signing for Chelsea. I don’t regret it at all. It’s also about memories and love and what those memories meant. Winning four or five trophies with Liverpool means an awful lot more than winning 10 or 11 with Chelsea.”
If you walk up to your wife and tell her how much better another woman would have made you, then follow it up with saying you don’t regret choosing her at all, what will your wife take away from that conversation? Gerrard talked about his memories and success at Liverpool, yet said he would have been better had he played for Mourinho….Stevie is contradicting himself!
“I have regrets for not playing for the man and the coach because I know he would have made me a better player.”
Steven Gerrard did nothing but cause some Chelsea FC fans to snicker and Liverpool fans to feel hurt. He said “Winning four or five trophies with Liverpool means an awful lot more than winning 10 or 11 with Chelsea”. However, the problem with this, is that he did not win one premier league title with Liverpool! What he said was true, not only would Jose of gotten more out of an already great player, but he would have delivered a Premier League championship to Gerrard’s hands.
However, Stevie chose to remain with his boyhood club. He didn’t get a Premier League title, but he has respect from the Liverpool fans for life. Gerrard certainly did not help himself with these comments, or communicate what he meant to in a clear way.
Poor Stevie G, even after he is gone he can’t help but slip…and fall.
I didn’t say he had my respect.
