Chelsea FC’s on-loan German midfielder Marko Marin is reportedly a target of MLS club Sporting Kansas City. Marin is still under contract with Chelsea for another two years and is currently on loan at Belgian club Anderlecht. The interest was confirmed by Sporting’s CEO Robb Heineman as seen on MLSsoccer.com.

The young midfielder was a part of the Chelsea squad that lifted the Europa League trophy following the 2012-13 season but he has not put on a Blues shirt ever since. Marin was signed just before the Blues won the Champions League in 2012 as a sort of insurance policy if they were not able to sign their actual targets that summer.
Players like Eden Hazard were targeted but it was believed that they would not join a club that was not playing Champions League football. The Blues of course finished 5th that season in the league, hard to believe really, but thanks to the rules in place were able to secure qualification to next season Champions League by virtue of winning it.
As for Marin, he joined Sevilla on loan in 2013-14 and became the first player in history to lift the Europa League trophy with two different teams in consecutive seasons. Although he did not do much to deserve it and suffered the ignominy of being brought on as a substitute and then taken off in the final.
He then joined Fiorentina on loan for half a season and scored two goals in four games before finally moving to Anderlecht in January 2015. He has since made six appearances for the Belgian side and they have not exercised their option to buy that was placed in the loan deal.

If the interest is there and the money is right, there is no reason that Chelsea FC should not sell the winger to Sporting KC. The Blues paid £7m for him back in 2012 and while it is unlikely that they will recoup much of that investment they can at least try to by dealing with the MLS side.
That is of course assuming Marin wants to move stateside but it is hard to imagine him turning down a permanent move somewhere with first team football awaiting him. He may be hoping for a move back to Germany so he can work towards getting back on the national team’s radar but Marin may have to crawl in MLS before he balls in the Bundesliga.
