It is a shame what happens to players if they “flop” or underperform at Chelsea FC. They get linked to a number of transfer stories all over Europe and the papers make it seem as if their departure from the club is a foregone conclusion.

In the case of Juan Cuadrado, after an underwhelming second half of the season for Chelsea, he has been linked with a return to Italy with every top club in the league. First it was a move back to Fiorentina, then a move to Inter Milan, and then it was Juventus who were supposedly glad to take him off our hands. The same clubs were also reportedly in the mix for Mohamed Salah so you could interchange their names in transfer stories and get the same result.
Getting frustrated by the speculation, Juan Cuadrado’s agent finally spoke out and put the kibosh on any move away from Chelsea FC. His agent Alessandro Lucci said, as quoted in the Daily Mail, “Much to my amazement, I read in some English and Italian newspapers about imaginary figures and agents associated with Cuadrado, so I think it is right to clarify the situation.

Lucci continued, “Cuadrado is a Chelsea player, who (Jose) Mourinho strongly wanted just over five months ago and the coach truly believes in him. He has many admirers but I reiterate that Juan is a Chelsea player. I, as his agent and intermediary, will decide with Juan his future, nobody else will.”
Some transfer speculation can actually be beneficial to a player’s career as it can give him leverage in contract negotiations. Wayne Rooney used that tactic with aplomb as he forced Manchester United to give him an improved contract on two separate occasions.
It appears that Sergio Ramos is using that same tactic now but it has been the opposite for Cuadrado. After a disappointing end to his Copa America, the Colombian international will want nothing more than to keep his name out of the headlines and focus on playing for Chelsea.
We have seen that when he is with Colombia he is a free-wheeling, dangerous player who runs at defenders and with pace and intent. He was tentative during his first spell with Chelsea and that can be attributed to nerves and trying to fit in with the team rather than stand out. After a full preseason and a few friendlies, he should get right in to the swing of things and finally make an impact in a Blue shirt.
