Chelsea FC: Our Favorite Petr Cech Moment

In honor of Petr Cech leaving Chelsea FC for the North side of London, we here at The Pride of London decided to take a look back at our favorite moments involving our favorite keeper. His time at Chelsea FC may have come to an end but the memories of what he accomplished will live forever.

Khaled: I tried to pick another one but Robben’s penalty in the Champions League Final is my favorite Petr Cech moment. I was devastated when the referee pointed to the spot and thought that the match was all but over. After being the hero just moments before that, Drogba was now the villain who put Chelsea’s Champions League hopes in doubt.

Instead, Petr Cech was the man of the moment and Robben crumbled under the pressure of the expectations on his shoulders. The saves in the shootout were equally as vital but the pressure of the Robben penalty made this moment all the more special for me and I will never forget how much I celebrated that day.

Brendan: I said it in my piece when the news started to break that Cech was on his way to the Emirates, but the moment I’ll remember most was his amazing save vs. Andy Carroll in the FA Cup Final in 2012.  Seriously, this was amazing. We forget this now, but Chelsea were slowly starting to crumble late in the match.

Liverpool was attacking with all their force trying to score the equalizer and, had Cech not made this save, they would’ve had full momentum to possibly get a 3rd.  But Cech made the impossible possible. As a keeper, the thing that really gets me, is Cech’s awareness to dive back into the goal (something a keeper NEVER does) to keep it out.  It kept the scoreline 2-1 and gave Cech his 4th FA Cup trophy.

Tyler: Personal favorite Cech moment was this entire season. I know that’s not a highlight video, but his ability to be a mentor for Courtois and not make life difficult for anyone is the perfect representation of his class and career.

Ejoh: My favorite Cech moment was his spat with Ivanovic in the game against West Brom. I liked the way he faced up to Ivanovic, something that doesn’t occur often.

Ajitesh: It has to be Munich, but for an alternative I’m going to say Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Hull in January 2014. This is because the game marked Cech’s 209th clean sheet, and with it Chelsea’s record for the most clean sheets. Goalkeepers don’t usually get many accolades or records to boast about so it’s only proper that Cech gets this one.

David: Alright fine, I’ll say Munich. The lasting memory of that game will be drogba’s late equalizer and winning penalty and he was even named man of the match. But cech was spectacular that game. Bayern threw 35 shots, 7 on target, and Cech stood tall all game long.  What I’ll remember most was Robben’s penalty in extra time.

How heartbreaking would it have been if Chelsea FC had taken a heavily favoured Bayern side who were outplaying us for 90 minutes to extra time only to have a former Blue win it. Admittedly it wasn’t a great penalty kick, but Cech made an amazing effort to ensure there was no rebound. That save was what led to the penalty shootout which set up Didier Drogba’s iconic winner.
