Who would have thought that of all the Latin American players in the Premier League and in European football, it would be Chelsea FC’s Juan Cuadrado that would grace the cover of FIFA 16 alongside Lionel Messi?
EA Sports announced today that the Chelsea winger would be featured on the cover after the decision was put to a fan vote. Cuadrado beat out some big names including Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Edinson Cavani of Paris Saint Germain.

He may have yet to impress the fans at Stamford Bridge but Cuadrado is still a fan favorite in his native country of Colombia. His performances in the yellow shirt of Los Cafeteros have been superb and he was their best player in what was a disappointing Copa America campaign. We have yet to see that same carefree and direct style of play that he shows with Colombia in a Chelsea shirt but we can chalk that up to nerves and not wanting to rock the boat in his first few months with the club.

He has reportedly been linked with a move back to Serie A with the likes of Juventus interested but so far there have been no concrete reports that a move is pending. Chelsea have shown a willingness to give up on a player after a short time so there may be some movement on this if Jose Mourinho deems him not good enough for Chelsea. So far his biggest achievement in a Chelsea FC shirt has been winning this fan vote which is not a bad consolation prize considering the game’s popularity.

Chelsea FC’s Oscar has also been selected to feature on the Brazil edition of the game and has been named the EA Sports Ambassador to the country. He beat out some other big names such as Neymar, Thiago Silva, and Phillippe Coutinho for the honor so it is a sign of his commercial appeal.

Thibaut Courtois has also been nominated for the FIFA 16 UK cover and the results of the fan vote will be announced tomorrow July 10th. This is all great news for Chelsea FC as it looks to expand its global commercial appeal and seeing a Blues kit on millions of copies of FIFA 16 is a great way to make that happen.

Here is the list of nominees that Juan Cuadrado beat out:

Juan Cuadrado – Chelsea (England)

Sergio Aguero – Manchester City (England)

Claudio Bravo – FC Barcelona (Spain)

Edinson Cavani – Paris Saint-Germain (France)

Jose Rondon – Zenit St. Petersburg (Russia)

Carlos Zambrano – Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany)
