Chelsea FC: Fiorentina Give Up On Mohamed Salah Pursuit

After a bizzare month of chasing Chelsea FC’s Mohamed Salah, Fiorentina have reportedly given up their pursuit of the winger. Salah was on loan at the Serie A club last season and all signs, including supposedly the language of the loan deal, indicated that he would be heading back for the 2015-16 season. The only uncertainty was whether it would be as a loan deal or a permanent transfer.

Instead what happened was one of the more twisted transfer sagas as Salah refused to go back to Fiorentina and instead angled for a move to a bigger club. He seems to have given up on continuing his career at Chelsea FC and is reportedly a target of both Inter Milan and Juventus. Both clubs saw how well the Egyptian winger did in the Serie A last season and are keen on acquiring his services.

Fiorentina brass were unimpressed with the alleged tampering from the other clubs and a club official sent out a series of accusatory tweets at Inter Milan in particular. Inter Milan responded and denied the allegations in an official club statement and left us all wondering what was actually happening behind the scenes.

After all of this madness, Fiorentina have finally come to the conclusion that Salah does not want to play for them anymore. Apparently he had dropped some hints to teammate Alberto Aquilani about his desire to leave the club so it should not have come as much of a surprise. Aquilani said, ““I’m surprised of the management, the press releases and this chaos but not of the situation itself. Salah told me that he is not convinced at all of staying a long time ago,”

So now Fiorentina want some compensation for the headache that Salah has put them and everyone else through. According to KingFut.com, “The Viola have asked Chelsea for the €1 million they already paid, plus an additional €3m as a ‘prize’ for helping the club increase his value.”

It is reasonable to expect that Chelsea will return their €1m for an “extension fee” considering Salah will not be heading back there but the extra €3m is a bit of a reach. While the club did help increase Salah’s value in a sense by playing him, it was the winger himself who lit up pitches across Italy and Europe with his stellar play. It does not appear that there will be an easy end to this saga but one thing is for certain, Mohamed Salah will not be suiting up for the Viola next season.
