Here is another silly season rumor that does not sound so silly the more you look at it, Bayern Munich’s Mario Goetze is reportedly unhappy with how things are going at the club and is looking for a way out. These rumblings are not just unconfirmed reports either as the midfielder’s agent has come out and attacked the Bayern management team and claiming that they have “destroyed” his client.

His agent Volker Struth said, as quoted in the Daily Mail, “Guardiola has destroyed Goetze. He feels like the coach doesn’t have faith in him and yet still he is asked to be decisive when he gets on the pitch, Goetze only plays in the easy games. I’m surprised no one at Bayern has realised that and defended Mario. I’m surprised that Guardiola didn’t use him in the important matches like the German Cup and Champions League semi-finals.

He went on and said, “Of course I would have liked it if Mario had felt more support in one or two situations. I am fully convinced that when Mario feels this support, it is easier for him to show his incredible potential. Then he is one of the best players in the world.”

So what does this mean for the young German? Will he actually move away from the club and seek more playing time elsewhere? Bayern have shown that they are willing to let marquee players leave for the right price if they are unhappy with their playing time.

Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri was seen as the natural successor to Franck Ribery on the wings but he felt he was not playing enough and ended up leaving for Inter Milan. For some inexplicable reason he is reportedly on his way to Stoke City but it shows that they are willing to let players depart. Shaqiri’s fee was only €11m compared to €37m for Goetze but that price is irrelevant as long as Bayern are able to recoup their initial investment.

If Chelsea FC do make a move here and pull the trigger, where would Goetze fit in? He is capable of playing as a number 10 but is also comfortable as a second striker or winger. While he may not be as industrious as Willian he certainly has more of a goal scoring touch than the Brazilian.

In 92 appearances with Bayern he has 31 goals compared to Willian’s 8 in 91 appearances. A great deal of what Chelsea FC is able to do offensively with their fullbacks is tied to Willian’s defensive contributions but Goetze can improve on that part of his game if he is given the full trust of his manager.

Mario Goetze is one of the best young talents in world football and he does not deserve to be wasting away on the bench at Bayern Munich. If he does want to make a move elsewhere then a club with the pedigree and status of Chelsea would be a perfect fit for the German. Jose Mourinho would make the most of his talents and versatility and would give him all the opportunities in the world to show off his prodigious talent.
