We here at the Pride of London have covered the evolving story of the Mohamed Salah transfer saga from every angle. It began with Salah enjoying an excellent half-season at Fiorentina, then continued with Salah not wanting to return there on loan for next season. There were some more twists and turns along the way involving a spat with Inter Milan over alleged tampering and a bizarre Twitter beef between the two clubs.

Next it was reported that Fiorentina wanted their initial loan fee back along with several extra million pounds as compensation for developing the player. They also wanted another player or two on loan in return. Now it appears that we may have finally reached a point where we can put all this transfer mess behind us.

The Evening Standard reports that the two clubs have come to an agreement wherein Chelsea FC will return Fiorentinas £700k loan fee and send another player there on loan there for next season. The Viola reportedly want to take either Ruben Loftus Cheek or Oriol Romeu on but the Spaniard is the more likely candidate because Jose Mourinho plans to include Loftus-Cheek in his first team.

Fiorentina director Andrea Rogg said of the agreement, “The rapport between Fiorentina and Chelsea is excellent. There has been some contact between clubs. We want to emerge from this situation in an amicable manner. Chelsea have many interesting players and this could be the route we go down.”

Chelsea FC continues to build relationships with clubs across different leagues in Europe. They have one in place with Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands, Besiktas in Turkey, and are reportedly in talks with clubs in Portugal and Belgium to expand the club’s base. Having these partnerships in place allow Chelsea to send their players on loan to clubs that they can trust will handle their players well and will also give them first access to the talent developed at those clubs.

Having a club like Fiorentina in Serie A as a partner would give the Blues another unique advantage over their rivals as they can send their players to another of Europe’s top clubs with confidence. A measly £700k and a wantaway player in Mohamed Salah is not worth ruining that potential relationship over and it does not look like Chelsea FC or Fiorentina are willing to let that happen.
