Chelsea FC’s New Kit Launched
By Lee Fraser
So the eagerly awaited Chelsea FC kit has finally been revealed.
7 days before it’s first scheduled appearance on the pre season opener against New York Red Bulls, and finally after several leaks Chelsea FC have shown the shirt that we will wear for the 2015/16 season.
I can’t remember a kit launch being so eagerly awaited or being launched so late!
There has been so much debate on social media about the red trim, the wording of Chelsea FC’s official sponsor Yokohama Tyres, and even the design of the collar, that this kit has already gained notoriety before it’s even been seen!
The newspapers including The Evening Standard have been full of stories about it, and even Diego Costa has tweeted sneak peaks:
So what do I make of it then?
The red trim is small enough to not overpower the darker Royal Blue so is acceptable.

- Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea player ratings: Abysmal, reckless, wasteful
- Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea: 3 Blues talking points
- Bournemouth vs Chelsea: 1 Blue Mauricio Pochettino should drop

- Predicted Chelsea lineup vs Bournemouth: Palmer starts in 4-2-3-1
The main problem I have is that the shirt looks cluttered, too busy almost. That is due to the sponsor’s name emblazoned across the front. I understand Yokohama wanting to use it to publicise their tyre brand, but it’s not pleasing on the eye! Couldn’t a compromise have been reached and just use Yokohama?
In this respect it is similar to when Samsung became Chelsea FC’s sponsor and used Samsung Mobile for the branding before dropping the “mobile” and just using Samsung.
Thank God the stud fastening is not there, but do we have to have buttons?
Overall in my opinion the new shirt is going to take some getting used to!
What do you think of it however? Is it a grower or did you like it as soon as you saw it?
Where does it rank in your all time kit list?
