Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours: Dear Chelsea FC, Stop Selling to Rivals
In keeping with the latest trend of strengthening our rivals, it appears that Tottenham Hotspur, everyone’s favorite neighbor to the north, is preparing to bid for Chelsea FC’s Victor Moses. The winger is thought to be a part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for next season, but is more likely to enjoy regular playing time away from Stamford Bridge.
Moses most recently returned from a loan spell at Stoke City but somewhat surprisingly has been included in the Chelsea squad that has flown out for the pre-season tour of the United States. He has not featured under manager Jose Mourinho and has spent the past 2 seasons on loan.

While I understand that Spurs are unlikely challengers for the top 4 in England, it still irks me that Abramovich and co. are looking to sell within the Premier League, when suitable buyers can be found elsewhere. For example, Juan Mata was sold to Manchester United, albeit for a hefty £37million fee, in the 2014 winter transfer window.
Mata was a club favorite for everyone bar the gaffer but I understood why he was sold. He was not in the mould of a Jose player and didn’t have the defensive capabilities expected by the boss from an attacking midfielder.
That being said, selling to a direct rival should have never been an option for a club such as Chelsea. Certainly an Italian, Spanish, or French club would have bought Mata, and we wouldn’t have to watch him play in United red for years to come.
Regarding Petr Cech, I’ve written about my distaste for the sale to Arsenal at length, and do not wish to get back into that subject.
While Moses is in no way, shape, or form the player Mata was for the Blues, the point remains the same. A club mandate of “we don’t negotiate with English rivals” should be instituted by Roman and Jose. Selling to the competition just makes a club look weak.
The truth is that Moses is a top 4 first team player. Sending him on loan to Stoke doesn’t bother me. Selling him to Stoke doesn’t bother me. But selling within the top 6 of the Premier League is tempting fate. Moses would undoubtedly be a great addition for Spurs and confirming this deal may come back to haunt us.
A standard should be set in order that we do not turn into Arsenal and offer our rivals top quality players that could do us some damage. Sell him to Valencia, Vitesse Arnhem, Lyon, even Crystal Palace, but not a direct competitor for the top 4.
It’s the principal at stake, not the 8 million pounds gained from a potential sale that should be considered.
