In his first interview since the end of last season, Chelsea FC boss Jose Mourinho touched on a wide range of topics ranging from transfer policies to the future of the club. Amidst this, he also confirmed that we will imminently sign a new four and a half year deal with the Blues.

‘I’m focused on Chelsea’s future with me, because I am going to stay, I am going to sign a contract sooner or later,’ said Mourinho (via The Daily Mail).
This will undoubtedly be music to the ears of Blues fans everywhere. It must be said that rumours regarding a new Mourinho deal have been doing the rounds for a fair few weeks, but this is the first confirmation from the man himself.
The Special One returned to Stamford Bridge for his second spell in charge two summers ago. After declaring that he would need a season to bring the Blues up to silverware-winning speed, he duly delivered on his words by failing to secure a trophy in the 2013/14 campaign before doing the double last season.
Mourinho is not renowned for staying at clubs for extended periods of time. During his managerial career, he has not spent more than three years at a team in a single spell, yet now having won league titles in four different countries, he is finally content to settle down.
‘For the first time in my career my perspective is different; my perspective is to stay at the club for longer than before, because before I had this thing in my mind to go to different countries and try to win different leagues.’
With this, Mourinho is eager to build a squad and plan for years to come which has shown through his evident attempts to bleed youngsters such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kurt Zouma into the first team.
Furthermore, he has brought in young recruits such as Kenedy and Danilo Pantic for the future while chasing younger players for the current first team. John Stones is one of these targets, and after reportedly having a £20million bid rejected by Everton, Mourinho has confirmed that the Blues remain interested while hitting back at Roberto Martinez’s comments regarding the nature of the pursuit.
‘We are making the bid in the period we have to make it, which is the open market.
‘So until September 1, every single one of our players can get a bid and we can make bids for other players. While they say we don’t accept this bid, until September 1 we can improve the bid: £1 more, £10 more. We can improve it.’

With Gary Cahill turning 30 this year, John Terry nearing retirement and Kurt Zouma inexperienced, Chelsea need another centre-back to provide sufficient depth. If Stones were to sign, it’s a fair bet that he would be pushing more for a starting spot rather than a bench-warming role.
Mourinho, meanwhile, will be turning his attention to Chelsea’s first pre-season fixture against the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday. Many players will be looking to make an impression on the boss ahead of the Premier League opener on August 8th.
