The transfer season is in full swing, so let’s take a look at what transfer rumours concerning Chelsea FC are flying around the press this morning.
- Manchester United great and central defender Rio Ferdinand has weighed in on the John Stones-to-Chelsea transfer speculation, writes The Mirror. The former England international claims that the 21-year-old would be “lunatic” if he were to join the Blues at this stage in his career. With no guarantee of regular playing time at Stamford Bridge, it would only be detrimental to his development.
- Meanwhile, Mirror journalist Darren Lewis has told talkSPORT that the Blues are readying a third bid for the youngster. After having two bids already rejected by Everton, Jose Mourinho has apparently not given up on landing Stones and will return with an improved offer.
- Chelsea are considering signing a full-back other than Abdul Baba Rahman, claims The Metro. Mourinho is willing to offer up to £15million for Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose in an effort to address a lack of depth in the defence. It is thought that this is to be on top of the acquisition Baba Rahman, which is close to being finalised.
- Speaking of the full-back, The Evening Standard reports that the Augsburg manager is demanding that Baba Rahman’s situation be cleared up. Markus Weinzierl “want the facts soon” after heavy speculation suggesting that the left-back is a medical away from signing with Chelsea.
- Lastly, Chelsea’s on-off interest in Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain may become a bit more concrete. The Express writes that the striker has rejected a one-year extension to his contract in Italy, making a move away this summer more plausible. Although previously not particularly interested in signing any striker, the return of Diego Costa’s injury issues may force Mourinho into buying another front man.

Furthermore, most of the sources are British tabloid papers which are notorious for making up random stories in order to give their journalists something to do.
