Chelsea FC’s Nemanja Matic Joins Twitter, Looks Awkward With Football

The day you never thought would come has arrived. Alright, fine. You never thought it would come because you’re not weird enough to be thinking such things, but I digress. Chelsea FC midfielder Nemanja Matic has joined Twitter! Here he is looking very awkward holding a Chelsea-branded football:

He looks uncomfortable doesn’t he? He certainly makes me feel uncomfortable. He also has massive hands.

Trawling through the small selection of tweets so far emitted from his account, he does not seem the most photogenic person out there. Here he is looking awkward on the physio’s bed:

But enough of all that. Switching back to more important matters, the Serb will no doubt be reflecting on Sunday’s FA Community Shield loss to Arsenal. Chelsea put in a pretty shabby performance and were unable to penetrate a well set up Gunners side, falling 1-0 and handing Arsene Wenger his first win over Jose Mourinho.

With only a bit over two weeks of pre-season training under their belts, the Blues certainly showed their rustiness. They were unable to string together any sort of incisive move and were often let down by slack and sloppy passing. After a frankly shambolic US tour, Chelsea did nothing to alleviate concerns that they will not be ready for the start of the Premier League this weekend.

Matic, meanwhile, will be key if the Blues are to retain their league crown and seriously contend in the Champions League. He had a great season last time out and made the defensive midfield position his own. Fortunately, he doesn’t seem too injury prone (the same can’t be said about Diego Costa) and will likely be needed to fulfil the ‘Play Every Minute Of Every Game, Sponsored By John Terry’ role in this campaign.

With no midfield additions so far in this transfer window, Chelsea’s depth remains a worry no matter how confident Jose Mourinho is in the abilities of John Obi Mikel and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Matic is arguably the closest (Michael Essien maybe?) the club have got to replacing the irreplaceable Claude Makélélé, and he knows that he is one of the main men in this squad.

Anyway, apparently it’s customary to get excited and send a ‘welcome tweet’ when someone famous joins Twitter but that all seems a bit stalkish/obsessive to me. However, scrolling through the replies, the award for ‘Best Welcome Tweet’ definitely goes to Pizza Hut:

Which leads us to our poll. What is Nemanja Matic’s favourite type of pizza? If you think that he prefers something other than the options listed, let us know in the comments below!
