After a rough start to the Premier League season in which the Blues only earned one point from two matches, Chelsea FC fans were in need of some good news. They got a little taste with the signing of Baba Abdul Rahman from FC Augsburg but now they got the main course with the signing of attacking midfielder Pedro from FC Barcelona.

The deal was announced early this morning to the delight of Chelsea fans worldwide that were desperate to see the Blues add another attacking threat. Fans had been clamoring for a goal-scoring threat on the right wing and despite all of Willian’s hustle and bustle his goals return was poor even for a winger.

Pedro on the other hand has scored at least 10 goals in the last six seasons for Barcelona and has two seasons with 20+ goals. Willian has never reached double digits and Chelsea FC’s other winger options Victor Moses and Juan Cuadrado have done so once each in their careers.

To say that Pedro is an improvement over both players is an under statement considering the fantastic pedigree of the winger. He has won nearly every club trophy available to him at Barcelona and has the distinction of joining Cesc Fabregas as the only World Cup winners in the squad.

More from Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours

The transfer saga to sign the 28 year old has been drawn out and has taken some interesting twists and turns along the way. It seemed like a done deal a month or so ago until Barcelona put the kibosh on it once Neymar’s illness became public. It then appeared that Pedro would either sign with Manchester United or City as both looked to strengthen their squad while Chelsea sat around twiddling their fingers.

There were even reports that United executive Ed Woodward had travelled to Barcelona himself to seal the deal. Instead, just as we saw with the Willian transfer to Tottenham and the Mohamed Salah deal to Liverpool, Chelsea FC swooped in and stole the player from right under their noses.

Since the signing was made public on Twitter, rumors have come out suggesting that Pedro turned down Manchester United because he did not want to play for Louis Van Gaal. He heard horror stories from his Spanish compatriots David De Gea and Victor Valdes about how they were being treated and decided against it.

Also for all his faults, Jose Mourinho is a fantastic man manager and he has a reputation of recruiting players to join his team. Now the club must decide what to do with Juan Cuadrado and Victor Moses but for now let us simply enjoy that Chelsea FC have added yet another world class player to the club.
