Chelsea FC To Loan Juan Cuadrado – Juventus Director

facebooktwitterreddit

Just two days ago it was reported that Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta had expressed interest in Chelsea FC winger Juan Cuadrado. He said in no uncertain terms that the club would take a look at the winger if he was available in this transfer window. Well he is most definitely available for a loan or permanent move.

Now we know that Juventus will indeed take the winger on loan for the 2015-16 season for a fee believed to be just £1.5m with no option to buy. Often times teams will include the buy clause to try and sweeten the deal as they try and get rid of a player they believe is not a fit for the team.

Chelsea FC did that with Mohamed Salah and Fiorentina and the Viola wanted to purchase the winger but he vetoed the move to instead go on loan to AS Roma. The capital club is definitely a more attractive situation for an ambitious player like Salah so things worked out in the end for everyone.

As for Juan Cuadrado, he is moving from champion to champion after essentially doing nothing at the club level for eight months. He made little impact with Chelsea last season and has not done much this season either for the Blues. His reward for all that is a move to the defending champions of Serie A and the best club in Italy by some margin.

Beppe Marotta confirmed in an interview with Mediaset Television that the move was all but official. He said, “[Cuadrado]’s going to join on a season-long loan. Only six months ago, he was bought for €35 million and today this opportunity arose and we’ve seized it and we hope to finalise it tomorrow morning. It’s now up to [coach Massimiliano] Allegri to work out where the players will play.”

He is correct in pointing out how strange it is that a player who was just purchase for £25m is now worth just £1.5m in a loan deal but that is the bizarre world of club football. Cuadrado will have to work his way back to form in a league where he dazzled with Fiorentina for several years before making his move to Stamford Bridge.

Juventus are still favorites to win the Scudetto even with the loss of players like Carlos Tevez, Andrea Pirlo, and Arturo Vidal and a player like the Colombian dynamo will only serve to make them stronger. He may not have done much in the Premier League but he is a proven talent in Serie A and has done great things with much less talented teammates around him. Before we wish him a fond farewell let us wait until the official announcement is made by either club.
