Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours: Neymar, John Obi Mikel, More!

The transfer season is in full swing, so let’s take a look at what transfer rumours concerning Chelsea FC are flying around the press this morning.

Neymar

This rumour has really come out of left field. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has listed Chelsea as one of the clubs potentially interested in a move for Neymar. Manchester United have been strongly linked with the Barcelona forward in recent days, but Balague states that such talk is near nonsense. He reckons that United have as good a chance as numerous other clubs including the Blues of signing Neymar and that these rumours have been started by the player’s agent.

"For those clubs with money, by which I mean REAL money, (Real Madrid, PSG, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United), if there was the slightest chance of signing [Neymar]…then they would snap it up in a heartbeat. – Yahoo Sports"

John Obi Mikel

In what could be music to the ears of many Chelsea fans, John Obi Mikel may be on his way out of Stamford Bridge. Turkish club Besiktas are reportedly interested in acquiring the midfielder as a deal for Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva has failed to materialise. It is unlikely that Jose Mourinho will let Mikel go given the lack of depth in midfield, and thus such a transfer could herald the arrival of one Paul Pogba. Personally, I think Mikel has been underappreciated in West London but there will be a sizeable chunk of Chelsea fans happy to see his back.

"Beskitas [sic] have switched attention to Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi after a deal for Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva stalled. The Chelsea midfielder could be allowed to leave the club before the transfer window closes on September 1 as Jose Mourinho continues to pursue a deal for Paul Pogba. – The Daily Mail"

Diego Costa

Rumours resurfaced yesterday that Chelsea striker Diego Costa wants out of Stamford Bridge. This story had originally reared its head some time ago at the beginning of June, but it has now returned. Costa had struggled throughout pre-season with injuries and had failed to score in the opening two games of this campaign. However, a goal against West Brom on Sunday may indicate that he is back on track. This rumour just better not be true…

"Chelsea FC striker Diego Costa met with Atletico Madrid president Miguel Angel Gil to discuss a possible exit. The [Express] contends that Costa is “hopeful” of a return to Spain and a reunion with Atletico and manager Diego Simeone. – The Pride Of London"
