The transfer season is in full swing, so let’s take a look at what transfer rumours concerning Chelsea FC are flying around the press this morning.

Aymen Abdennour

With any chance of signing John Stones supposedly vanquished, Chelsea have turned their attention to a range of alternatives. One of these is AS Monaco’s Aymen Abdennour. The defender had signed the papers needed to bring him to Stamford Bridge, but the French club have raised the asking price. As a result, Chelsea’s interest has stalled and the £15million man is now unlikely to be heading to West London.

"Chelsea have gone cold after the price to sign the 26-year-old centre half was increased at the last moment. It seems the French club would prefer to do business with Valencia, the club that knocked them out of the Champions League. – The Daily Mail"

Marquinhos

Marquinhos is another of the alternatives being considered. The Paris St. Germain defender has been heavily linked with a move away from the French giants throughout the summer, and now Chelsea have entered the mix of clubs interested in him. Having said that, PSG seem to have no intention of selling the Brazilian, so the Blues will need a mega bid to prise Marquinhos away from the French capital.

"Mourinho is determined to bring in defensive reinforcements before the transfer window closes, and Marquinhos has become a top target as the Blues look to have missed out on landing Everton’s John Stones. – The Metro"

Paul Pogba

Chelsea are continuing in their pursuit of Paul Pogba. In addition to the mouth-watering £73million bid that has reportedly been tabled by the Blues, the player is demanding around £318,000 a week. These are the kind of numbers I chuck around on Football Manager, not in real life. To be fair, if Chelsea do land Pogba’s signature, I don’t think too many fans will be complaining about the figures if he delivers on the pitch. Furthermore, with the position the club is currently in, any big signing is welcome.

"Pogba has already been promised £8.8m a year after tax by Barcelona…So Pogba has let it be known he wants that astronomical figure matched if he is to move to Stamford Bridge.British tax rates mean the Blues would need to pay Pogba £318,000 a week, meaning a total salary package of a £82m over the course of a five-year contract. – The Daily Star"
