According to English newspaper Express, Chelsea FC youngster Nathaniel Chalobah has arrived in Italy for a loan move to Napoli. Chalobah has also reportedly completed his medical and will be loaned to the Serie A club for the remainder of the 2014-15 season.

The midfielder/defender has been linked to loans to numerous clubs including Reading of the English Championship and Marseille of Ligue 1. He spent half of last season on loan at Reading and made 20 appearances, all of them starts, for the Championship club. Reading manager Steve Clarke is a former assistant at Chelsea FC and still has strong ties to the club. Clarke also took Nathan Ake on an emergency loan last season making The Royals the favorite to land Chalobah.

It was later reported by The Reading Chronicle that the youngster preferred a move abroad instead. While the move to Reading would have been beneficial for Chalobah as he would have returned to a familiar club, the move to Napoli is the natural progression in his career.

He has proved with Watford, Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Reading that he is talented enough to play in the Championship and lower levels of English football. His failed move to former Premier League club Burnley was marred by a scary throat injury that was nothing more than bruise but appeared much more more serious at the time.

Now Chalobah has the chance to impress at a top club in Italy. Napoli is expected to challenge for a Champions League place after finishing 5th in the table last season. They will also be playing in the Europa League after qualifying for the group stages of the competition so he will have an opportunity to play in European competition for the first time.

Chelsea FC have had mixed success with sending players on loan to Serie A. Mohamed Salah became a star at Fiorentina and turned that success to a loan at a bigger club in AS Roma while Marko Marin became a forgotten man with the Viola. Chalobah will be hoping for a star turn similar to Salah but will have a more difficult time breaking in to the squad.

Napoli is not short on talent as they have stars such as Gonzalo Higuain, Raul Albiol, and Marek Hamsik in the squad. Still, with a demanding schedule including Europa League travel and domestic competitions, Chalobah should be given opportunities under manager Maurizio Sarri. Either way it will be a testing experience for the 20-year old and productive one if everything goes according to plan.
