Manchester City have bought Kevin De Bruyne in a move that may well end Chelsea FC’s title challenge

Manchester City recently announced the arrival of Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg in a mega £55million deal. Given the performances of the various title challengers so far this season, this move may truly put City on a level above Chelsea FC and the rest.

The 2015/16 Premier League campaign has got off to a bizarre start for a number of clubs. Arsenal lost their opening game at home to West Ham and have only won two out of their first four fixtures. Manchester United and Liverpool have the same number of points as the Gunners after being turned over by Swansea City and the Hammers respectively at the weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur have faltered as well, and have failed to register a single win thus far with three draws and a loss.

Then there is Chelsea. Chelsea have had a terrible start with two losses and sit in 13th position with four points.

Manchester City, meanwhile, sit at the summit of a top four that reads:

1st. Man City
2nd. Crystal Palace
3rd. Leicester City
4th. Swansea City

Yes, it is just four games into the campaign and the table always looks a bit strange early on. However, the alarming fact is that City have already opened up a 5 point gap on any realistic title challenger, and an 8 point gap over Chelsea.

Furthermore, they are the only club that have looked like championship-material as well. None of the big teams can claim that they should have won more games. Hell, Manchester United should really have zero wins when you consider the terrible football that they have been playing.

City already look like runaway league winners, and the arrival of Kevin De Bruyne reinforces their spot at the top.

There is no telling what De Bruyne will do to pseudo-good teams such as Tottenham

The Etihad squad now reads like an all-star team. Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Samir Nasri, Wilfried Bony and Jesus Navas are joined by new acquisitions Raheem Sterling and De Bruyne as the attacking options.

That is just silly.

Moreover, City have been hitting their straps going forward and look unbeatable. Sterling has not been fazed by his big money move, grabbing a goal on Saturday while Silva has been playing as well as he ever has.

Adding De Bruyne to this mix is frightening. Jose Mourinho let the Belgian winger go in January of 2014 for £18million, but De Bruyne has since gone on to blossom at Wolfsburg. He scored 16 competitive goals while racking up the most assists in the Bundesliga (21) last season. His performances led to him being named both Bundesliga and German Player Of The Year.

Now he has returned to the Premier League and it would not be surprising if he did so with a vengeance.

Mourinho has been confronted with various questions regarding his former charge ever since City were linked with him. For the most part he has answered them diplomatically, stating that Chelsea was simply not the right fit for De Bruyne and that he was happy with the Belgian’s success since his departure.

Recently, however, he was a bit more rude about De Bruyne and given the quality of the player, that probably wasn’t Jose’s smartest move.

De Bruyne tore up teams in Germany last season in what is arguably a technically more advanced league (at least at the top). Now back in England, there is no telling what he will do to pseudo-good teams such as Tottenham.

One of the biggest doubts over the City squad heading into this campaign was manager Manuel Pellegrini. Is he good enough to bring the best out of team that severely under-performed last season? So far it seems that he is, and the players look like they want to make up for last year’s disappointment.

They have also strengthened in all departments. Nicolas Otamendi arrived last week to shore up their weakness in defence and the addition of KDB gives them another world-beater to tear up opposition.

Kevin De Bruyne will want to avenge his troubled stint at Stamford Bridge and get back at Jose Mourinho. Beware, this title race may already be over.
