Chelsea FC have announced that Victor Moses has been loaned out to West Ham United

Chelsea FC have completed their first meaningful deal of Transfer Deadline Day (<it deserves capital letters) with Victor Moses being shipped off to West Ham United for the rest of the season.

The Nigerian has spent the last two seasons on loan at Liverpool and Stoke City, and was tipped for a permanent Stamford Bridge exit over the summer. However, his rebirth at The Britannia last time out was impressive enough for Jose Mourinho to insist on keeping him.

Mark Hughes tried to make Moses a part of the Asmir Begovic deal, but Mourinho refused to let the winger go, stating that he was in his plans for this campaign. The former Wigan man was subsequently the best Chelsea player during a dire pre-season, and he probably would have harboured hopes of a substantial role this term.

However, he has failed to feature in a Premier League game thus far while he has not even been included in the matchday squads for the last three fixtures. Moses tried to claim an injury on Twitter, but the lack of details pointed towards a more mysterious issue.

Now it has been confirmed that he will not feature in a Chelsea shirt at all this season as he heads across London to Upton Park. West Ham have been heavily linked with the winger over the last 24 hours or so, and have managed to hold off reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur to complete the deal.

Chelsea fans may well be disappointed with the agreement, as Moses has been one of the few players to show any sort of promise since the squad reconvened in July. While his higher-profile teammates have looked flat and uninterested, Moses really looked like a man with a point to prove during pre-season. With Chelsea’s flailing attack, it seems unjust that he hasn’t been afforded an opportunity.

All is not lost, though, as before being sent packing Moses penned a new four-year deal with the Blues. The fact that he still had two years left to run on his contract indicates that perhaps the Chelsea brass do see a future for him at Stamford Bridge.

For now he will be under the directions of Slaven Bilic, and will link up with a decent West Ham squad. The Hammers have been further strengthening on deadline day with Nikica Jelavic and Alex Song being signed in the last hour or so. Having already beaten Arsenal and Liverpool, there is much cause for optimism at Upton Park this season.

Elsewhere, Blues defender Josh Davy has had his loan deal with Peterborough extended to January.
