Chelsea FC Captain John Terry Comments On Jose Mourinho

Chelsea FC captain John Terry has commented on his relationship with Jose Mourinho, and has more than quelled any rumours of a rift

Blues boss Jose Mourinho substituted Terry for the first time in his career when Chelsea were humiliated by Manchester City 3-0. The club captain cut a glum figure sat on the bench and immediately rumours started doing the rounds of a reported fall-out between the pair. Such talk was only augmented by Terry’s red card the following week against West Brom.

However, the centre-back has dismissed all the negative thoughts while talking to the Guardian Football Weekly podcast (as quoted by The Express).

"Jose’s the best manager I’ve ever had. I’d chuck myself under a bus for him."

That’s quite a statement from Terry, but one that would not have surprised you prior to the City game. He has been Mourinho’s stalwart and main man throughout both his tenures at Stamford Bridge, and the defender has always stood resolutely side-by-side with the Portuguese manager.

However, on the back of Chelsea’s terrible start many *ahem* ‘journalists’ have tried to conjure up some news of splits and divisions within the Blues dressing room. Furthermore, with the defence largely to blame for the bad performances, Terry has been a particular target.

The captain did look visibly disappointed with his removal at half-time in the City game, but given the professional that he has proven to be, Mourinho’s actions were not going to cause Terry to sulk and moan. These comments further underline such a sentiment and will hopefully put an end to all the nonsense that the club could very much do without at the moment.

The Blues are in a well-documented tight spot and seriously need the whole squad to rally around and perform at the levels that won them two trophies last season. The team are evidently better than four points from four games and they will have to get their act together sharpish should they not want their title race to be over before it started.

Meanwhile, Terry also reaffirmed his loyalty to the club when questioned about a potential move to Arsenal by Piers Morgan.

"I couldn’t do that. I could never play for any Premier League club other than Chelsea."

At the age of 34 he probably won’t have an opportunity to do so but it is always reassuring to hear Terry say that.

In the meantime, he will be busy preparing for the massive game against Everton on Saturday. The eight point gap to table-toppers City means that this tough fixture is now a must-win.

The best players turn up in the toughest situations, right?
