Chelsea FC are interested in signing Dani Ceballos from Real Betis

According to reports, Chelsea FC’s transfer window is far from closed with Real Betis midfielder Dani Ceballos on the club’s radar. The Blues have supposedly made contact with the Spanish club regarding the 19-year-old.

Estadio Deportivo, via a translation by yours truly, claims that the Stamford Bridge brass have enquired about Ceballos’ availability.

"Various Premier League clubs have knocked at his door, beginning with Chelsea, whose interest in the home-grown Verdiblanco dates back to 2014."

Just for the benefit of those who don’t know, Los Verdiblancos is a nickname for Betis.

The acquisition of Ceballos fits in with the current Blues transfer policy. He is young yet established and has the potential to become a quality footballer.

The midfielder made 33 league appearances for Betis last season, 24 of them being starts, scoring five goals in the process. He has also represented Spain at U19 and U21 level, a fact that underlines his promise.

Recognising his potential, Betis have offered Ceballos a mega deal in an attempt to tie him down for the long-term. While they may admit that it is unlikely that the youngster will remain at the Estadio Benito Villamarin for more than a couple of years, a new deal will increase his value. This is especially true given that his current contract expires next summer.

The same publication also reports that Liverpool are interested and are debating whether to try and break a deal now or wait until a pre-contract agreement can be signed in January.

"[Liverpool] are debating whether to meet his release clause or wait until January to sign a pre-contract agreement."

This will of course depend on whether Ceballos takes Betis’ offer or not. However, with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and even Real Madrid linked with moves for the player it would not be surprising if he held out for his big deal.

Arsenal are another English club that have been heavily associated with the player throughout the summer but they are interestingly left off this latest report. It would be naive to read into that too much though.

Ceballos, meanwhile, continues to turn out for Betis having appeared in both their La Liga games so far this season. Having said that, amidst this fresh speculation it will be interesting to see whether the midfielder features in this weekend’s game against David Moyes’ (remember him?) Real Sociedad.

It will also be intriguing to see if Chelsea’s

transfer team somehow announce a deal that would have come more or less out of nowhere.

The only thing that we can almost guarantee at this point in time is that he will likely be making his way back to Betis on loan should he be signed.
