Kurt Zouma and John Terry

Chelsea’s defence has been the worst subset of the squad so far in this campaign. There is simply no way in which a team can win games when the opposition look like scoring every time they move forward.

Last year’s John Terry-Gary Cahill partnership does not look viable anymore as both centre-backs are showing their age. This is exemplified by Mourinho substituting his club captain at half time during the Manchester City clash as Sergio Aguero and friends consistently found their way in behind the backline.

Having said that, Mourinho knows that he must stand by Terry and more importantly the boss knows that Terry is much better than what he has shown. The Englishman missed the last Premier League game against Crystal Palace after being dismissed the week prior but he should be restored to the starting line-up on Saturday.

Kurt Zouma, meanwhile, should get the nod alongside him. The Frenchman played last week and although POL writer Joshua Sutter gave him a rating of 5, he will not improve unless he keeps playing. Additionally, he definitely has the potential to be more than capable when playing at the top of his game.

A few of the goals that the Blues have conceded can be pinned on the midfield, but both men will need to firm up the Chelsea spine if any trophies are to be won this season.
