Chelsea thrashed Maccabi Tel-Aviv 4-0, here are the Blues’ player ratings. PS: they’re actually good!

Chelsea FC chucked the Premier League out of the window as they opened their Champions League account with a convincing win over Maccabi Tel-Aviv. The Blues scored four goals and kept a clean sheet in a performance that stood out from the rubbish that fans have seen during the season so far.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho saw the midweek fixture as an opportunity to change things up, and change things up he did. John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic were

dropped with the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Abdul Baba Rahman getting the start instead.

This injection of youth and supposed backup players did the trick as Chelsea looked closer to the 2014/15 double-winning squad that they have done at any point during this campaign. Furthermore, Cesc Fabregas also stumbled across some form while Eden Hazard improved significantly.

Diego Costa even scored a goal in the Champions League (his first European goal for the club) as a party atmosphere was restored to Stamford Bridge.

Now it’s time for our regular breakdown through the player ratings.

The ratings are on a scale of 1-10 with 10 representing Lionel Messi, and 1 being Fernando Torres. Players who come on after 70 minutes do not receive a rating due to a lack of playing time.
