Chelsea FC youngster Kasey Palmer features in FIFA 16, but his inclusion is not too pretty.

One of the dreams for a young footballer in this generation is to be immortalised in EA Sports’ FIFA series. The best-selling franchise is played by millions of people the world over and has grown to be a important part of modern pop culture. Kasey Palmer has realised his dream this season as he appears as part of Chelsea’s squad. Unfortunately, the graphic artists didn’t pay too much attention to him…

Just for comparison, here is what Kasey Palmer looks like.

6/10. Yep.

As we all know, in-game graphics have come a long way since the turn of the century. I remember playing FIFA 99 and noting how there were about four generic faces that were more or less used throughout the game. Throughout the last decade players have increasingly looked like their human counterparts (even though lower leagues were still subject to the one-face-fits-all tactic on occasion).

Now, there is a noticeable resemblance in each footballer on the game. However, while the artists pour over the fine details of Lionel Messi or Eden Hazard, evidently they don’t care too much about an 18-year-old who has never played for the senior team.

Fair enough, I guess.

Having joined the club in 2013, Palmer has gone on to be a vital contributor to the FA Youth Cup triumphs of 2014 and 2015, the U21 Premier League title of 2013/14 and the UEFA Youth League victory last season.

A mobile yet strong midfielder, Palmer has become a prime candidate for

a senior role in the future.

It should be pointed out that all this moaning is very tongue-and-cheek from the youngster, and he’s certain to be delighted by the opportunity to run around alongside the likes of Hazard and Diego Costa in the inevitable Champions League final that he takes the club to.

For the moment, though, Palmer will be focused on getting his head down and continuing his promising line of development. As one of the few Chelsea youth players featured on FIFA 16, he’ll be looking to make sure that EA Sports’ evident bet that he will develop into a useful senior player actually becomes a reality in two years’ time.

Now, if only there was any space for a lanky, slightly dark moron to trot out in the centre of defence…

And no, creating yourself is not the same.
