Porto spoiled Jose Mourinho’s homecoming by defeating his side 2-1 in a Champions League clash. Here are the player ratings.

Chelsea FC continued to be distinctly average as they failed to win yet again on Tuesday night. After a performance that could only be described as empty against Newcastle United at the weekend, the Blues did little to improve at the Estadio do Dragao and allowed Porto to take the 2-1 victory.

Jose Mourinho had issued a rallying cry prior to the fixture as he stated that he wasn’t sure whether he had ‘serial champions’ in his current Chelsea squad. He also spoke about the supposed ‘untouchables’ and denied that there are any, especially given how poorly everyone has been performing.

His frustration was further communicated by the benching of Eden Hazard for the European fixture. Mourinho may have hoped that the decision would have implicitly warned other squad members that no-one is in fact untouchable, but the message seemingly failed to filter through to the players who did start.

Despite some very convincing penalty shouts (particularly the handball near the final whistle), Chelsea simply did not deserve anything from the contest and justifiably left empty-handed.

In his post-match press conference, Mourinho tried to claim that the Blues had performed well, but that just was not true.

So, let’s dissect individual performances in the Chelsea player ratings. (Branislav Ivanovic better brace himself.)

The ratings are on a scale of 1-10 with 10 representing Lionel Messi, and 1 being Fernando Torres. Players who come on after 70 minutes do not receive a rating due to a lack of playing time.
