Chelsea FC Squad Turmoil Rumours Return

No-one likes Mourinho. Mourinho doesn’t like anyone. I hate everyone.

As often is the case with a club in a tricky spot, rumours suggesting frictions within the squad have returned to add a narrative to Chelsea FC’s current woes. With former key players such as John Terry sitting out recent fixtures, the Blues camp are supposedly concerned over Jose Mourinho’s man management at the moment.

The Guardian play the role of fountain of knowledge this time around by claiming that the Chelsea squad are not happy with the boss using certain players as ‘scapegoats’. With the Blues going through a rough patch so far this season, Mourinho has been making big decisions such as dropping John Terry, benching Eden Hazard and leaving certain players out of matchday squads. Consequently, there is turmoil especially since his actions have not exactly been fruitful.

"Concern is growing within the Chelsea dressing room at the perceived scapegoating of certain players by José Mourinho after the champions’ desperately poor start to the season."

To be fair to the speculators, Mourinho’s man management has seemed a bit off in this campaign. Chelsea have been desperately crying out for leaders on the field but the boss has insisted on keeping John Terry on the bench and starting a questionable Gary Cahill alongside Kurt Zouma. More alarmingly, he has somehow found reason to start an abysmal Branislav Ivanovic week in, week out.

AND GIVE HIM THE CAPTAIN’S ARMBAND.

At this point, the Serbian himself must be thinking that he doesn’t deserve to be there. Nonetheless, the boss has perservered and Chelsea have continued to suffer as a result.

Furthermore, there were also eyebrows raised after Mourinho did not bring a pair of strikers to the Porto game. Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao did not even get on the plane, let alone feature in suits just behind the dugout. After the duo failed to stand in sufficiently for Diego Costa at the weekend, the boss evidently thought that they wouldn’t add anything extra to the team in the Estadio do Dragao.

Mourinho has previously addressed rumours of in-fighting by jokingly dismissing them. However, that was on the back of a 4-0 demolition of Maccabi Tel-Aviv and thus he was slightly better positioned to fend off the allegations with some humour.

However, it will be interesting to see how he addresses the rumours this time around. It is a bit of bizarre situation for Mourinho, who carries the reputation of being one of the best man-managers in the game. He has had some high-profile run-ins (Iker Casillas immediately springs to mind) but his ex-players largely have nothing but ultimate praise for him.

Raphael Varane recently spoke about how the Portuguese tactician saved his career at Real Madrid while Kurt Zouma called him ‘the best coach in the world’ mere days ago.

This is a difficult situation the likes of which Chelsea have not experienced since Andre Villas-Boas was in charge. Neutral onlookers will be undoubtedly reaching out for the popcorn to see how it all plays out.
