FA charges Jose Mourinho. In other news, the grass is green and the sky is blue.
Chelsea FC boss Jose Mourinho has been charged by the Football Association (FA) after comments made on the back of the club’s 3-1 loss to Southampton. This comes as no surprise really, given that he is Jose Mourinho, but to be fair to the governing body, his comments did cross their
well
defined lines.

The Blues boss went on a remarkable rant in the aftermath of the defeat. Having been posed a question by a Sky Sports reporter in the customary tunnel interview, Mourinho took the opportunity to tackle a wide range of issues in what has been described as a meltdown. It’s truly fantastic and you can check it out here.
However, the Portuguese inevitably addressed the officiating and claimed that referees ‘are afraid to give decisions to Chelsea’.
"Referees are afraid to give decisions to Chelsea. At 1-1 there is a huge penalty and, once more, we do not get it. If the FA wants to punish me they can punish me, no problem."
The FA undoubtedly will take action against the Blues boss after levying the charge of misconduct. Chelsea’s situation is simply going from bad to worse and unnecessary incidents such as this is exactly what the club doesn’t need at the moment.
While Blues fans may bitch and moan about the FA’s alleged hatred of the West London club, there is no denying that Mourinho’s comments were both idiotic and unwarranted. It has been widely acknowledged that Radamel Falcao dived in the event that the boss is referring to. Furthermore, with the club in such a tough spot, they could easily do without superfluous skirmishes.
Fortunately, this is Mourinho’s first explicit brush with the law in this campaign and thus he should be handed a fine and nothing more. Nevertheless, his breakdown is simply a representation of the tumultuous state of the club currently.

Languishing in 16th place with eight points from eight games, Chelsea have not been in such a dire spot for some time. Even the most ardent of Blues fans finally voiced their concerns during the Southampton loss, as substitutions and the final whistle were greeted with a smattering of jeers.
Frankly, Chelsea have been beyond blaming the officials this season and have deserved little more than what they have received. The players have looked hapless and disinterested while Mourinho’s insistence on sticking with certain veterans (Branislav Ivanovic) has been baffling.
Chelsea, and Mourinho in particular, must face the problems within the squad instead of blaming external factors. The players’ apparent disinterest and lack of motivation is a far bigger issue than (rightly) not being awarded a penalty.
