Chelsea FC are suffering their worst start to a campaign for 22 and 1/2 million years under Jose Mourinho so what better time to release a book about his “football style and philosophies”.
The book can be purchased here online and at retail outlets next week.

When first envisaged, a book by one of the most successful managers in football must have appeared a pretty good idea to the publishers.
After last season’s domestic double it must have appeared like all their Christmas’s arrived at once.
Now it’s time to publish it………. well ok, it will give some more classic Mourinho quotes at least!
Love him or hate him, you can’t ignore him, that’s Jose Mourinho, and so at The Pride Of London we figured this would be a good time to look back at some of his most memorable quotes from his 2 periods at Chelsea FC.
And so in no particular chronological or merit order here are our
Top 5 Jose Mourinho Quotes.
Jose’s arrival in the Premier League was memorable in many ways. This brash young relatively unknown manager sat down in his 1st press conference and came out with what is probably the most quoted phrase in modern football.
“Please don’t call me arrogant because what I’m saying is true. I’m European champion, so I’m not one of the bottle. I think I’m a special one…We have top players and, sorry if I’m arrogant, we have a top manager.”
After the January transfer window closed in 2007 Jose wished he had done more shopping, but despite a long term injury to Ashley Cole he was content with the quality of his squad.
“It is like having a blanket that is too small for the bed. You pull the blanket up to keep your chest warm and your feet stick out. I cannot buy a bigger blanket because the supermarket is closed. But I am content because the blanket is cashmere. It is no ordinary blanket.”
Also during Jose’s 1st stint at Chelsea FC he was questioned on his policy of rotating the likes of Joe Cole, Arjen Robben and Damien Duff, I don’t think his answer would have gone down too well with the marketing gurus!
“Why drive Aston Martin all the time, when I have Ferrari and Porsche as well? That would just be stupid”
Jose likes to use analogies to get his meaning across, a few classic examples are the 2013/14 squad’s “young ponies” and “young eggs” that need nurturing, but one of his best was when talking about youth development at Chelsea FC he said:
“Young players are a little bit like melons. Only when you open and taste the melon are you 100 per cent sure that the melon is good. Sometimes you have beautiful melons but they don’t taste very good and some other melons are a bit ugly and when you open them, the taste is fantastic! One thing is youth football, one thing is professional football. The bridge is a difficult one to cross and they have to play with us and train with us for us to taste the melon.”
Of course no compilation of Jose Mourinho quotes would be complete without an attack on his best buddy Arsene Wenger. His most recent ones have been the “specialist in failure” quote and just last week his “no pressure” attack, but the one that kicked it all off was when he accused Arsene of being a voyeur! Subsequently Jose did apologise (through gritted teeth) for that particular one, but the damage had been done to Arsene and now he will always be thought of as the nosy neighbour next door!
“I think he is one of these people who is a voyeur. He likes to watch other people. There are some guys who, when they are at home, have a big telescope to see what happens in other families. He speaks, speaks, speaks about Chelsea.”

Of course with such a high profile manager there are going to be occasions when parody accounts on social media have a pop back at him, and some of them are actually nearly as funny as he is himself.
These examples from YouTube should be taken as exactly that, a bit of banter and humour in the dark days of our forthcoming relegation fight!
Well we hope you’ve enjoyed our attempt at lightening the mood of the Chelsea FC family, and of course if you have any other “Jose Gems” you’d like to share please feel free to add them in the comment section below.
