In one of the surprise moves of the summer transfer window, Chelsea FC brought in FC Barcelona winger Pedro for a fee believed to be around £25 million. The Spain international has spoken about his happiness with the move but his former teammate Dani Alves did not want him to go.

Alves, as quoted in the Express, told his teammate that he should stay in Barcelona but was overruled by other influences on the winger. Alves said:

"“I told Pedro he should have stayed at the team but too many people got involved. Had he stayed he would have been happy here but we don’t make the decisions. If we did I would want him to stay for years.”"

Pedro made an instant impact for the Blues as he scored and assisted a goal in Chelsea’s match against West Bromwich Albion. Many thought it was a sign of things to come as he appeared to have replaced Willian in the starting lineup. He has two goals and an assist to his name in six starts but has not lit things up the way it seemed he would after his magical debut.

To be fair to Pedro the whole team has struggled but he has not done much to redeem himself either. Pedro has also lost his place to Willian once again as the Brazilian has been absolutely on fire in recent weeks with free kick goal after free kick goal. The Spaniard was brought in to give Chelsea goalscoring threat across from Eden Hazard on the right wing but Willian has responded well to get his place in the lineup taken away.

With the injury to Lionel Messi ruling him out for 6-8 weeks, Pedro would have likely been starting for Barcelona and playing regularly for them. Things have not gone well for Pedro and the club as a whole since the start of the season but Barcelona have struggled as well. They have looked sloppy in defense and they are lacking some drive and cohesion without their superstar forward in the mix. They are still just second in the table only three points behind leaders Atletico Madrid.

Pedro would be in a better situation if he had stayed in Spain but he has already won every trophy available to him with Barcelona and was likely looking for a change. He is experiencing a new challenge in a new league and a new country and the Blues will need him to be focused and happy if they are to change their fortunes after this international break.
