The Blues may recall the pair due to a lack of playing time.

Chelsea FC are considering prematurely ending the loan deals of Patrick Bamford and Nathaniel Chalobah, according to reports. The former is currently with Crystal Palace while the latter has been sent to Napoli. Both deals are for the season.

The Evening Standard reports that the Blues are worried about the development of two of their most promising youngsters and thus may exercise the recall option soon.

"It is believed both players have break clauses in their contracts and could be recalled in January if things don’t improve."

Bamford had a stellar campaign last time out as his 17 goals in 38 Championship games helped him to the Championship Player Of The Year award. It was hoped that this spell at Selhurst Park would provide him with an opportunity to test himself against higher quality opposition but he simply has not received the minutes.

His sole start in a Palace shirt came in a League Cup fixture and it did not go to plan. Eagles boss Alan Pardew even admitted that Bamford’s performance was underwhelming and the striker has been afforded precious other time.

Chalobah, meanwhile, has failed to take the pitch in a Serie A game. Apart from a brief sighting during an Europa League fixture, the midfielder has been wasting away. The 20-year-old is highly-rated at Stamford Bridge and thus the management are becoming understandably concerned with his lack of playing time.

The Englishman is entering arguably the most important stage of his development and sitting on the bench may well hinder his ability to fulfill his potential.

Bamford, meanwhile, will be desperate to show that he has what it takes at the Premier League level. He would have harboured hopes of playing a role in the Blues squad this season but having been loaned out, the youngster must be eager to prove that he will be ready for the next campaign. Currently, he has not been given an opportunity to do so.

The good news, however, is that should both players return, there will undoubtedly be swathes of decent clubs looking to bring them in.

The duo have both represented England at U21 level and have been widely touted as potential stars of the future. Furthermore, they have also racked up competitive experience with loan spells at various Championship outfits. Numerous clubs were reportedly interested in securing their services over the summer and that should not change if they were to be made available once again in January.

Hell, they may be even useful in the senior team at the moment.
