Chelsea FC: Jose Mourinho Fined, Banned By FA

Jose Mourinho has been fined by the FA. Nothing to see here…

Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho has been handed a fine and a ban by the Football Association (FA) for his comments on the back of the club’s 3-1 loss against Southampton. The latter of the two is a suspended punishment while the former is worth £50,000.

After the Blues capitulated spectacularly and conceded three goals against the Saints at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho went on a bizarre rant in his post-match interview. The Chelsea boss provided a seven-minute response to a single question posed in the tunnel interview in a meltdown that has caused many to question his sanity.

Mourinho claimed that referees were ‘afraid’ to award his team penalties. According to BBC Sport, the FA has deemed these comments to be implying ‘bias on the part of a match official’.

While the boss will be made to pay the fine, the ban will only be enforced should he breach the FA’s code of conduct within the next year.

Blues fans, meanwhile, can have little complaints this time around. Mourinho made comments that, whether true or not, evidently contravene the association’s rules.

Furthermore, his words were unjustified with regard to that particular game. Chelsea did not deserve any spot kick and Southampton were in fact the ones who could have legitimate grievances.

Sadio Mane could have won two penalties while the Radamel Falcao incident has been widely recognised as a dive.

Mourinho will now literally pay the price for letting his frustration get the better of him and frankly there is nothing more fitting at the moment.

The manager’s outburst suitably represents the current chaotic nature of the football club. Four losses and eight points from eight Premier League games leaves Chelsea down in 16th position. The team have looked completely out of sorts to the point that it is difficult to make a case for them deserving anything more.

With the international break, Blues fans will be hoping that the players will return to domestic matters reinvigorated. Fortunately, there are few better ways to get back into Premier League affairs than playing host to Aston Villa.

Tim Sherwood’s side are struggling and thus there is potential for a convincing Chelsea win. Having said that, Villa may also view this as an opportunity to take points off a vulnerable team.

Mourinho’s suspended ban, though, may be beneficial as he takes his focus off the authorities and onto his underperforming players.
