Reports: Radamel Falcao To Leave Chelsea FC

Radamel Falcao may be ending his loan deal prematurely.

Chelsea FC may part ways with one of their strikers in the January transfer window, according to reports. Radamel Falcao is the front man in question, with his season-long loan in jeopardy as a result of a lack of playing time.

The Mirror carries the story and claims that the Colombian has become frustrated by being regularly overlooked by Jose Mourinho.

"Falcao, 29, is frustrated by a lack of chances at Stamford Bridge after joining Chelsea on a season-long loan from Monaco…He is concerned about his international place as he struggles to get games and there have been enquiries to his advisers about his availability."

Chelsea signed the striker as cover for Diego Costa this summer. Even though Falcao had a near-sterile spell at Manchester United last season, the Blues brass evidently recognised that as an isolated period of form. Furthermore, with AS Monaco presenting them with loan terms that were significantly more favourable than those signed by Ed Woodward, it appeared as a reasonable punt.

However, the deal has not come through so far with the Colombian scoring just the one goal. Having said that, his opportunities have been relatively scarce since he has only made two starts in his nine competitive appearances.

Fellow backup front man Loic Remy was preferred to the striker when Diego Costa was serving his three-game suspension, but his omission from the matchday squad for the Aston Villa game has reportedly pushed him over the edge.

Despite being fully-fit, Mourinho decided to leave him out of his 18 chosen players. This move perhaps indicates the Blues boss’ stance on the affair, with Falcao regarded as the third-choice option in Mourinho’s mind.

It was thought that if anyone could get Falcao back to his world-class best again, it would be the Portuguese tactician. However, the Colombian has failed to show any improvement on his frankly pathetic showings in a United shirt last season.

This is an unfortunate situation for Falcao, who has fallen from grace in a specatular manner. Not all is lost, though, with the likes of Barcelona imaginatively linked with a move for him. At the age of 29, there is still some mileage left in the striker, but it would require a heroic effort to draw it out of him.

In the meantime, Falcao must get his head down and prove his worth to Mourinho if he desires to take the field this side of Christmas. Furthermore, with a need for Monaco to agree to the loan termination (and consequently pay his huge wages), a January departure seems unlikely anyway.
