Chelsea have been fined after racking up a multitude of bookings.

The Football Association (FA) have passed judgement on one aspect of Chelsea FC’s disciplinary issues from Saturday. The Blues will be fined £25,000 after the club accumulated seven bookings in total against West Ham United.

Six separate Chelsea players were reprimanded by the referee, with Nemanja Matic receiving two yellow cards to be sent off towards the end of the first half. Such a number of bookings automatically trigger this fine, but the Blues will also await further action following other controversial incidents.

First team coach Silvino Louro was dismissed by referee Jon Moss after protesting Matic’s second yellow. Even though it has been widely acknowledged that the Serbian did deserve a caution for each of his challenges, Louro evidently thought otherwise.

Furthermore, Jose Mourinho did not take his seat in the dugout for the second half after he too was sent to the stands during the interval.

While the FA’s punishment for the club’s several yellow cards is automatically triggered, the other incidents will be scrutinised in depth before a decision is reached.

Mourinho was just recently castigated by the governing body after comments following Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of Southampton. The Portuguese tactician had a minor meltdown and claimed that referees are ‘afraid’ to give the Blues penalties. This outburst resulted in a £50,000 fine and a suspended one-game ban.

Consequently, fears have justifiably been raised over whether this latest incident will force the ban into action. Given that this infringement does not fall under the same category as the Southampton one, this will not be the case. However, as this is Mourinho’s second brush with the law this season, it would not be surprising if the FA hands down a hefty punishment.

Furthermore, to add salt to the wound, the Premier League are set to open an enquiry following the club’s behaviour at the game’s conclusion. Mourinho refused to meet with the media in his obligatory post-match press commitments.

While the boss is not required to fulfill the duties personally, Chelsea failed to send anyone to deputise. Due to that, the league will be taking appropriate action which is believed to be at worst a fine.

Whatever happens with regard to the administrators, it is simply a side-show to the chaos on the pitch. Chelsea have lost five out of their opening 10 Premier League games and look more like relegation candidates than Champions League chasers.

Frankly, I’m just getting tired of writing about this nonsense.
