Chelsea FC, Jose Mourinho, West Ham Charged By FA

The FA have charged a plethora of people following Saturday’s game.

Chelsea FC fell 2-1 at the hands of West Ham United on Saturday afternoon. While the result itself was thoroughly disappointing, it was somewhat overshadowed by superfluous incidents that permeated the contest. Now, the Football Association (FA) have announced that the Blues, West Ham, Silvino Louro and Jose Mourinho have been charged.

Both clubs have been cited for failing to control their players following Nemanja Matic’s red card just before the end of the first half. Players from each outfit engulfed the referee as they attempted to force Jon Moss into a decision that benefited their party.

The Serbian’s dismissal also caused Chelsea first team coach Silvino Louro to kick off. After remonstrating with the referee in a rather strong manner, he was banished to the stands by the match official and faces charges of misconduct.

Mourinho, meanwhile, failed to emerge from the tunnel as he was sent off during the interval. Reports are shady so far, but he supposedly refused to leave the officials’ dressing room having been invited in to discuss the pair of dismissals. He has been charged with regard to his ‘language and/or behaviour towards the match officials in or around the dressing room area at half-time.’

This is all on top of Chelsea’s £25,000 fine that was automatically triggered as a result of the club receiving six or more yellow cards. The Blues received seven in total, with Matic earning two to be sent off.

Now, Mourinho will wait to see whether he will be able to take his seat in the dugout for this weekend’s unfathomably crucial Liverpool clash.

The Portuguese tactician has already been punished by the FA this season, having received a £50,000 fine and a suspended one-game ban after claiming that referees are ‘afraid’ to award Chelsea penalties.

Given that this new offence does not fall under the same category as the comments, it will not activate the suspended penalty (it’s a joke, get it?). However, as this is Mourinho’s second brush with the governing body in such a short time, it would not be surprising if the administrators handed down a hefty sentence.

With five losses in their opening 10 Premier League games, Chelsea’s weekend clash with Liverpool could be vital in deciding Mourinho’s future at Stamford Bridge. Another loss, and that too at home, would do nothing but increase the ever-vocal critics of the boss and make his position more untenable.

Whether you want him to stay or not, there is no denying the pressure on Mourinho at the moment. Not being able to be pitchside on Saturday will certainly not help his cause.
