The Chelsea boss is in trouble, but should he be sacked?
With all of the speculation and rumors surrounding Jose Mourinho and his potential departure from Chelsea FC, a question needs to be asked relating to his current state as manager of the Blues. After a season of turmoil, petulant attitudes, and lackluster play, does Jose Mourinho deserve another season at one of the top clubs in the world?
There is always a thought when considering a coaching change: is there anyone better out there? When Carlo Ancelotti was sacked at Real Madrid, there was no one better available. In fact when Rafa Benítez was hired, it was even more crystal clear that no one better was available. Common sense didn’t seem to be the driving force behind the change from Ancelotti to Rafa; in fact it was a desperate coping mechanism and a self-denial of a uninspired roster equilibrium on the pitch and in the dressing room.
Someone had to take the fall in Madrid. It certainly wouldn’t be Florentino Perez’s boy Gareth Bale, or pompous superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. It had to be the manager who would be sacrificed only a year after winning the Champions League.
No seriously, a year after winning the biggest title in club football, Real Madrid sacked their manager. Chelsea see themselves in the sphere of Real Madrid, and if Jose Mourinho doesn’t pull a rabbit out of his hat and save Chelsea’s season, Jose will take the fall as well.
The main difference between Real Madrid’s sacking of Carlo Ancelotti and the potential sacking of the Portuguese tactician is Jose’s leadership. The boss appears to be a great leader in the dressing room and a skillful tactician; let’s give him the benefit of the doubt in those two areas.
Having said that, the attitude that Jose has displayed in the press (and especially in the West Ham game with regard to the referees) may be enough to get him out of town. If Chelsea were winning, his petulence would be swept under the rug. However, with Chelsea losing and playing poor football, this attitude will not be tolerated for much longer.

As a Chelsea fan, I’m more tired of Jose’s antics than I am of Chelsea losing. I understand that a football team goes through rough patches, but what I don’t understand is a manager behaving like Jose, not accepting responsibility or conducting himself appropriately. I’ll leave the sacking responsibilities to the brass at Chelsea FC, but as a Chelsea fan Mourinho has caused more irritation than the club’s form.
Nevertheless, Jose is the best option for Chelsea FC, there is no question about that. He is called the “Special One” for a very good reason. His incredible resume has helped him wash ashore on some of the biggest and brightest stages in world football.

The only problem with being on such a pedestal is that everyone becomes replaceable. Pep Guardiola, Carlo, Jose, and more are all considered disposable when bad football or press comes knocking at the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Chelsea and other football hotspots around the world. The culture is just structured so that no manager is considered larger than the club itself. Like it or not, one bad season for any quality of manager with any amount of success, and they are instantly considered to be up for the sack.
But the Blues should defy this status quo and give Mourinho more time. While I may be incredibly tired of Jose’s attitude and sometimes questionable actions this season, what I cannot understand is why he would not be given at least this season and part of next year to solve the problems.
The man is a savior, immortalized at Chelsea for what he has done to bring the club from the grounds of average to league champions and above. Give him some time Roman.
