Jose Mourinho Obsession Runs Riot In English Media

The Jose Mourinho crazy train is in full effect as members of the English press continue to obsess about the Chelsea FC manager. The obsession has even bled in to the press conferences of opposing managers and some of them are not too happy with the constant badgering about the subject.

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic was respectful and backed Mourinho to succeed while Dynamo Kiev manager Sergey Rebrov was just annoyed by all of the questions. He was not disrespectful in his tone, to Mourinho at least, but it was clear that he was done answering questions about the manager under siege.

Rebrov told the media, as quoted by the Express:

"“It’s a little bit funny, ridiculous that I have to constantly answer the questions about Mourinho. Fifty percent of questions are about Mourinho. We really shouldn’t be thinking about what’s happening with Chelsea at the moment. What is happening with them now can happen to anyone. We need to focus on our game and not to think whether it’s a wounded animal or not.”"

The English media has a twisted obsession with Jose Mourinho and it does not appear to be ending any time soon. They love him because he is a constant source of quotes and he established a rapport with him in his press conferences but things have turned icy in his second stint in England.

More from The Pride of London

He went from making jokes during his interviews and making a press conference more like a standup comedy show to being sullen and essentially saying “no comment” after the Liverpool loss. The reality is that the English media, with their constant digging for dirt and propensity to simply make things up, have driven Jose Mourinho to this sort of attitude.

Rebrov spent three years in England as a player but he does not know the scrutiny that comes with being a manager at one of the top jobs in the country. The nonsense that Mourinho has to deal with, especially when it comes to biased reporting and stances taken against him and his club in the media, was enough to take him from charismatic to bitter in less than two years.

Mourinho is clearly tired of the papers vilifying him and his players, calling for them to be suspended, and brewing further controversy for him and the club. He does not make matters easier with his attitude and some of his actions but there are simply many more anti-Chelsea voices in the press than even neutral ones. The manager is a wellspring of controversy but even when he does nothing he is accused of stirring up trouble.

The Chelsea board certainly pays attention to the sort of press the club is getting and while they may back him in public, they may realize that the media will never be positive towards the club as long as he is manager. If the Blues do indeed sack Mourinho then some of the blame will surely be on the media’s shoulders as they have constantly harassed and harried the manager since he returned to England.
