The midfielder is getting tired of his lack of playing time.

Chelsea FC midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is angling for a move away from Stamford Bridge in January, according to reports. The youngster is believed to be weighing up his options after failing to be granted an extended run in the side.

The Times (subscription required) carries the story, claiming that Loftus-Cheek sees his time on the pitch limited as Chelsea try to turn their campaign around.

"Loftus-Cheek is concerned that the first team will feel farther away than ever in the next few weeks, with Mourinho under huge pressure to get a positive result in every match."

The Englishman has not made a Blues appearance since starting against Aston Villa on October 17th. In that contest, he made way for Nemanja Matic at halftime. Far from getting minutes on the pitch, Loftus-Cheek has only been included in the matchday squad for three out of the last six Chelsea fixtures.

Consequently, it is hard to label his complaint, should it be true, as unreasonable. Furthermore, his disillusionment is thought to be compounded by his promise of regular football being broken.

"The player’s disappointment is particularly acute because after Chelsea’s home defeat by Southampton last month, the manager publicly promised him a lengthy run in the side, which has not materialised."

This is undoubtedly a frustrating time for the youngster. After making his senior debut last season, Loftus-Cheek would have been justified in thinking that this could be a breakout campaign for him. Additionally, with Mourinho sending over 30 youngsters out on loan, the fact that he was kept at Stamford Bridge would have been encouraging.

However, the boss has used him sparingly, much to the vexation of Blues fans. Loftus-Cheek represents a Chelsea academy product who has the ability and potential to become a world-beater. This was proven in his first start of the year during which he put in a man of the match performance against Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

Nevertheless, he has only made four competitive appearances so far and thus will be forgiven for looking elsewhere.

The most irritating aspect of this situation is that with Chelsea stuck in such a rut, there is very little to lose if Mourinho were to chance his arm with the youngster. Moreover, as the Premier League title now seems a tad too far away, the club should be looking to bleed the young talent in order that the Blues can hit the ground running next August.

It remains to be seen what will occur once domestic football resumes in a week or so, but one thing for certain is that there will be no shortage of suitors should Loftus-Cheek become available for loan this January.
