Radamel Falcao will sever ties with Chelsea, apparently.

player Radamel Falcao is set to cut short his stay in West London, according to reports. The striker has failed to make an impact during the opening quarter of the season and is believed to be on his way back to mainland Europe in January.

The Daily Mail carries the story, claiming that Blues boss Jose Mourinho has run out of patience with the Colombian. Contracted to AS Monaco, Falcao has reportedly been offered the chance to join Valencia during the winter.

"Chelsea flop Radamel Falcao will be offered a January escape route to Valencia…Chelsea are ready to terminate Falcao’s loan from Monaco as they have a season long agreement where they pay his huge wages."

The forward joined the Blues over the summer, after an absolutely disastrous spell at Manchester United the season before. Falcao looked a shadow of his former self as he larked about the field like a moron. No-one could doubt his effort, but there was simply little reward.

Regarding this as an off-year for the Colombian, Mourinho brought him to Stamford Bridge for the season in the hope of resurrecting his career. It hasn’t happened and given the club’s general struggles it was unlikely to in such a situation.

With his massive salary, Falcao represents a losing investment and while the club are committed to him for the season, the interest from Valencia may enable the Blues to terminate the agreement for a reasonable fee.

The issue is that Monaco cannot afford the wages they agreed to pay him, a fact that explains why he has been shipped off in recent seasons.

It has been quite a capitulation for the striker. After spells with Porto and Atletico Madrid, he was widely regarded as one of the best front men in the world. This was underlined by his move to Monaco which was reportedly for a fee around €60 million.

However, a nasty knee injury intervened in early 2014 and he hasn’t been the same player since. Having said that, with Falcao the right side of 30, Chelsea’s decision to sign him was by no means idiotic.

Nevertheless, it has not worked out and certainly has not been helping the Blues in a time of need. With Diego Costa getting into fights and Loic Remy being inconsistent at best, the ability to trust the third striker could have been a saviour for the club.
