4) Eidur Gudjohnsen – £4 million, 2000.
Another striker, another bargain. Gudjohnsen was signed in 2000, perhaps to replace Tore Andre Flo, and formed one of the best strike partnerships in Premier League history with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Gudjohnsen spent six years with Chelsea, and scored 78 goals during his time with the club, including a very special overhead kick against Leeds.

The Icelander managed to catch the dawn of the modern Chelski, with Roman Abramovich buying the club about halfway into his stint at Stamford Bridge. Consequently, he was a part of the overwhelmingly successful first Jose Mourinho side. Two back to back Premier League titles were delivered in 2005 and 2006, with Gudjohnsen also lifting the League Cup.
While the striker may not have been prolific by modern day standards, his general play was impressive enough to garner admiration world-wide. With the likes of Didier Drogba and the aforementioned Hasselbaink partnering him, Gudjohnsen did exactly what he needed to in order to be the perfect compliment to his teammates.
He left Chelsea for Spain, transferring to Barcelona, before returning to England for spells with Tottenham, Stoke and Fulham. He then returned to his boyhood club Bolton Wanderers. Despite playing almost everywhere, he remains a Chelsea fan favourite, after great success under Jose Mourinho.
